Abstract
Standards and Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) are closely interconnected and play a vital role in ensuring safe and healthy working environments for employees across various industries. ISO 45001:2018, Occupational health and safety management systems – Requirements with guidance for use, is the world’s first International Standard for occupational health and safety (OH&S).
Laboratories handle various chemicals, equipment, and processes that can pose potential risks if not managed properly. Maintaining health and safety compliance is an ongoing process that requires commitment from all laboratory personnel. Regular training, awareness campaigns, and collaboration between researchers and safety officers are crucial for creating a safe and productive research environment. By adhering to laboratory safety standards and OHS principles, laboratories can minimize risks, protect personnel, and maintain a secure environment for scientific research and experimentation. Implementing the ISO 45001 series standards will assist the organization to protection lab staff from potential hazards and improve their well-being and as a consequence have the best services for their customers.
